Econometric and Data Analysis Certificate

The Department of Economics offers an undergraduate certificate in Econometric and Data Analysis. This certificate aims to develop competence with highly employable data analytic skills, which students can apply to technical careers in business analytics, public policy analysis, and other data-intensive fields.

This certificate is open to all undergraduate students. Data Science, Economics, Finance, Food and Resource Economics, and Geography majors are especially encouraged to apply. Several credits will double count toward the Economics major.

Because this certificate requires a substantial number of prerequisite courses, the Department of Economics must consider timely graduation when evaluating applications. All certificate applications should include a graduation plan that demonstrates how the applicant will meet all undergraduate program requirements, including the certificate requirements, in a timely fashion.

Important Advising Considerations

  • All courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C. Courses in which students earn a grade of C- or below may not be applied to this certificate.
  • Nine credits of coursework in this certificate must be unique and not applied to other certificates or minors. There is no similar uniqueness provision for applying these courses to a student’s major.
  • Specific to Economics Majors: Economics majors can apply ECO 3430, ECO 4421, and ECO 4422 toward the major’s Required Upper-Level Coursework requirement. They will still require a fourth economics course that satisfies that requirement. Students will take at least one course (GEO 4169) in the Certificate that is not applied to the Economics major.
  • Specific to Economics Minors: Economics minors can apply ECO 3430, ECO 4421, or ECO 4422 toward the minor’s elective coursework requirement. Because certificate students must complete nine credits that are distinct from all other certificates and minors, Economics minors may only apply one of the certificate courses to the minor.

Application Process

Students must apply to the undergraduate certificate in Econometric and Data Analysis through the UF Office of Admissions. A complete application will require a graduation plan lists all remaining course requirements and the semester in which they will be completed. Competitive applicants will have a minimum UF GPA of 3.0 and have earned a B or better in ECO 3101 or ECP 3703, as well as in introductory calculus and statistics. No letters of recommendation will be collected.
